“Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” Mark 8:12
We are so driven by the need – the desire – for proof before we venture anything new. We research for days before making any major purchases – checking on consumer reports and business bureaus to make sure we’re making the “right” decision. We need to hear the results of clinical trials – professional backers – everything we do is done based on proof. Especially when it comes to God answering our prayers. All of us have fallen victim (at least once) praying to God that He give a sign – is this the path we are to follow? Please God – give me a sign.
Yet, in this one, single passage – Jesus clearly states that a sign will not be given. If it is proof we seek, then we must turn to our faith. Our faith in God is the only sign we need – He will light the path if we believe. Asking for proof only casts doubt – when we pray and ask using our hearts, relying on our faith, then that’s when our prayers will be answered.
