This holiday season, Macy’s has been promoting their #santaproject, encouraging everyone to share their “why” – why do you believe in Santa? The answers resonate with anyone who hears them: because I know what belief can accomplish; is the embodiment of joy; he represents all of the hope and love and generosity…
Wow. Just wow. Yes! Absolutely, yes! It’s why I still ask for “Santa presents” to be under the tree on Christmas morning. It’s a way to recapture and revel in our innocence. Before the weight of the world fell in to our shoulders.
But then, I stopped in my celebrations and agreements with these belief messages…and turned my eyes upward.
How is it that we can say all of these things about a fictional character, yet, can’t apply that same logic and thinking to our belief in Christ? Could you imagine where we’d be as a people if we put that same unwavering faith and joy and proclamation of belief into Christ as we do Santa?
“I assure you, we tell you what we know and have seen, yet you won’t believe our testimony. But when you don’t believe me when I tell you about earthly things, how can you possibly believe if I tell you about heavenly things?” John 3:11-12 (NIV)
